What is an eyelid correction?
An upper eyelid correction will improve the appearance of the eyes by remodeling the skin. This can improve your field of vision and make you look fresher. A lower eyelid correction will correct the tired aspect of the eyes by reducing wrinkles and correcting the swollen aspect under the eye.
Before surgery
The surgeon will go through your medical history together with you. He will perform an examination of both eyes and take photographs. If necessary, an ophthalmologist will also perform a thorough eye examination.
The procedure
The procedure can take place under local or general anaesthesia. The skin excess will be corrected at the level of the upper eyelids by means of an incision that falls into the skin fold and is therefore barely visible after the operation. Often, some muscle or excessive fat tissue will be removed at the same time. The wound is closed with a continuous suture, which is removed a few days after the operation.
An eyelid correction combined with a more drastic procedure such as a facelift. Your surgeon should fully inform you about the feasibility and possible additional procedures.
Possible complications
- visible scars or poorly healing scars
- bleeding
- infection
- swelling, pain or bruising
- poor wound healing
- reduced sensitivity or hypersensitivity
- asymmetry between both eyes
- damage to deeper anatomical structures
- allergic reactions
