The board of the RBSPS deeply regrets to announce you the passing of our Senior Member Dr. Marc Depoorter, on the 7th November 2025.
Dr. Depoorter served as President of our association from 2001 to 2003, and as Secretary for more than a decade, from 2003 to 2015. He was also the Chairman of the Dutch-speaking Recognition Commission for Plastic Surgery.
As Head of Department and Training Supervisor in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at AZ Sint-Jan Hospital in Bruges, Dr. Depoorter was a pioneer in microsurgery and replantation.
He was among the first generation of Belgian Plastic Surgeons to complete a fellowship abroad and can be regarded as one of the last of the generation of all-round plastic surgeons, with surgical expertise across all areas of our specialty.
As Secretary of the Scientific Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, he played a key role in the unification with the Professional Association of Plastic Surgeons, helping to strengthen and advance plastic surgery in Belgium, and helping to establish the unified RBSPS as we know it today.
His professional excellence, dedication to surgical training, and his human warmth will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to work with him.
